Preparing To Drill And Enjoy A Water Well

Posted on

If you are planning on putting a water well on your property, there is a lot of planning and preparation that is going to go into the process. There needs to be an aquifer with a good flow rate and a regular static water level. These are all things that will need to be learned before the drilling occurs. While the odds of drilling a dry well are very low, a high producing water well is the goal. Here are a few things to consider when planning on drilling a water well on your property.

Pick A Good Contractor

This is the number one biggest choice that you are going to have to make. A good contractor will know what the government regulations are for water wells in your area and will obtain permits. They will also know the general aquifer conditions in the area and be able to talk with neighbors to see what type of flow rate they have. A good contractor will also know the type of water reservoir, whether the reservoir is in sandstone or limestone, because they will have to drill down through the rock.

Talk with neighbors and others in your community that have used different contractors. Eventually you'll want to pick the contractor with the most experience in the area.

Space

You need to make sure that you have enough space to host a drilling rig. A water well is drilled by a rotational drilling rig most of the time. There are instances where impact drills are used to drill the well, but rotational drilling rigs are far more common. These are large rigs, so it is important that you clear the area for the well. You need to make sure that you are away from your septic tank and all ground lines. Once you have the area cleared out and the septic tank, electrical, and other underground pipes marked, the contractor will drill your well.

Water

It is pretty incredible that you are going to be using water that comes straight from your own water well. Take a minute to enjoy the fact that the earth is providing you with the greatest natural resource. Remember that the water is a resource to be treasured and enjoyed, so do your very best not to take it for granted and waste a lot of the water. Once the well is drilled, the contractor will hook up the pumps and you will be on your way to fresh well water.
